“As a result of the hard work of the staff, volunteers and Board of Trustees, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) recognized the organization as a Gold 2011 Gateway to Impact award winner during a regional conference last week in Atlantic City, said Paul Casey, CEO of the Garfield-based agency.
It’s a wide area, too:
The Northeast Region consist of Boys & Girls Clubs in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island and Vermont.
What was the key?
Casey said the club “established an intentional approach to measuring attendance for all programs” and also officially chartered a second location at Garfield Middle School.
At the same time, he said, “our staff deserve a tremendous amount of credit …. [N]o matter how well we track our members or how many clubs we have, if it wasn’t for the relationships that our caring staff has for our members, the kids wouldn’t come back each day.:
The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield serves more than 1,500 multi-ethnic children each year.
Its part of a national network of 4,000 or so neighborhood-based facilities, serving more than 4 million young people annually in all 50 states and on U.S. military bases worldwide.
