High-End Car Thieves Target Key Fobs In Demarest

DEMAREST, N.J. -- A high-end auto theft ring is using key fob detectors, making it important that owners don't leave them in their vehicles, Demarest police said.

No fewer than five vehicles were swiped in a week during the evening and early-morning hours, Police Chief James Powderly III said.

He reminded people to lock their cars and to report suspicious people or circumstances immediately.

Meanwhile, borough detectives were working with local, county and state authorities to investigate the thefts, Powderly said.
