Despite getting into the West Palisade Avenue Dunkin Donuts and jimmying a cash register partially open around 4:20 a.m., 47-year-old Keath Miller didn’t get any cash, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.
Officers responding to a burglar alarm there viewed the store’s surveillance system, which got a clear shot of Miller and his clothing, Torell said. They then broadcast an alert, he said.
Less than an hour later, Officer Charles Silva spotted him several blocks away on Street. Officers Rene LaRaia, Thomas Baldwin and Lothair Porter assisted in the arrest, Torell said.
Moments later, officers were called to the Tres Esquina convenience store on West Demarest Avenue on a burglary report there.
The intruder took merchandise, “the exact value of which is unknown until an inventory can be taken by the owner,” Torell said.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and city detectives then linked Miller to that break-in, as well.
“Good, solid police work all the way around,” the captain said.
Miller was charged with two counts of burglary, one of theft and one of obstruction for not identifying himself when he was arrested, Torell said.
He was being held on $24,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
