A resident flagged down Officer Rich Solow at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday and said his car had just been burglarized by thieves who hopped into a blue Chrysler that headed south on Engle Street.

Solow radioed in a description and began searching the area with officers from Tenafly, Detective Charles Franke told Daily Voice.

Meanwhile, the victim told Sgt. Mark Hirsch that he heard his car alarm go off, looked out and saw someone in the vehicle. When he went outside, he said, he saw the same man trying to enter a neighbor's car across the street while another tried getting into a car next to his.

When he called out, they took off, the victim told police.

A third man was in the back seat of their car, he said.

A short time later, Tenafly Officer Bradford Adams spotted the car at the intersection of County Road and Hudson Avenue, Franke said.

Solow responded along with Tenafly Sgt. Nicholas Roux and Officer Cooper, the detective said.

In plain view in the car were stolen items, he said.

The officers took all three into custody and impounded the Chrysler.

Adrian Gierek of Oakland and Chad Tucci of Bogota, both 20, were charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

They were being held on $15,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.

The rear-seat passenger, 21-year-old Hassen Ben-Abdelkader of Teaneck was released pending a court hearing on receiving stolen property charges.

Franke obtained a search warrant and said he found "numerous" stolen items.

He said the trio are believed responsible for at least four vehicle burglaries in Cresskill and one in Dumont -- all on Tuesday.

Additional charges were pending.
