Wrixon, an Air Force vetern, holds a special place in his heart for those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice, been wounded in battle, served overseas and returned home safely or freshly enlisted in the armed services.
Besides participating in Wounded Warrior events, he donates regularly to the organization. This includes the initial $100 he contributed last weekend to this year’s “Cold Water Challenge.”
Wrixon then took it a step further: “If I can get 400 bucks to my favorite charity, on Memorial Day I am jumping into the coldest water you can find,” he said.
This time of year, the water in Northeast Bergen is plenty cold. So Wrixon’s officers came up with the pickup truck — and plenty of ice.
Following Monday’s Memorial Day parade, the chief expects to take the plunge.
Adding a twist, he’s agreed to remain with only his head exposed for 30 seconds. If he doesn’t make it, he’ll contribute an additional $100 to the WWP for every second under 30.
