Construction crew ruptures underground gas tank at Closter Plaza

NEWSBREAK: A construction crew ruptured an underground propane tank at the former site of the Grand Union in Closter Plaza, forcing the evacuation of the K-Mart and closing Vervalen Street.

Suburban Propane was to remove the remaining gas from the tank following the 11:15 a.m. incident, Police Chief Dennis Kaine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Closter police and firefighters responded, along with a Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit.
