Whoever was responsible forced their way into at least eight businesses on Homans Avenue and Piermont Road, preliminary police reports indicate.

However, most of the owners were smart enough not to leave money around.

The other two may have sustained losses in the thousands, although police this afternoon were still assembling their reports.

Closter police ask that anyone with information about the break-ins call them at (201) 768-5000.
