CLOSTER, N.J. -- Meet Georgia Carey and Hootie. Carey is a volunteer at the Closter Animal Welfare Society -- or CLAWS -- and Hootie is one of its adoptable kittens.

Carey recently made 22 beds for CLAWS to use in its show crates, so the cats and kittens will have soft beds on adoption days. Now, she's busy working on catnip toys, that CLAWS can sell at upcoming events.

She also comes and sits for hours, holding scared kittens and getting them used to being touched. She also helps with organization garage sales. "CLAWS is very lucky to have found Georgia, who truly gives new meaning to the word volunteer," a news release noted. "We cannot thank her enough for all she has done for CLAWS."

For more information about CLAWS, visit its website or Facebook page. It's located at 63 North Washington Ave., in Bergenfield, and is mostly open by appointment only, by calling 201-768-0200.
