American singer, songwriter, model, record producer, and actress, Mary J. Blige turns 45 today.
Blige was born in the Bronx, N.Y. in 1971, attended Roosevelt High School and, in the spring of 1988, Blige recorded an impromptu cover of Anita Bakers, "Caught up in the Rapture."
Blige is the second of four children born to parents Cora, a nurse, and Thomas Blige, a jazz musician.
Since 1992, Blige has released a total of 11 studio albums and made more than 150 guest appearances on other albums and soundtracks. She is the recipient of nine Grammy awards and has received a record of 30 Grammy nominations.
