The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Closter Elks Club 148 Railroad Ave. Tickets are $60 and includes $200 toward play money and one door prize ticket. Admission is free to all breast cancer survivors.

Tennis for Life was started 16 years ago by Marcia Devins an avid tennis player with Stage 4 breast cancer. She felt it was important to stay as active as possible throughout her illness.

Even though Devins passed away, her idea has grown the past 16 years into a much larger organization with the original chapter in Bergen County (Ridgewood Racquet Club).

Since its inception, more than 300 women have gone through a program operated entirely by breast cancer survivors and supported by fundraisers the group has themselves.

The group provides free year-round weekly indoor tennis to any breast cancer survivor. This includes paying for the courts and tennis pros to work with on drills to enhance a patient's ability to move, gain balance and confidence in their body. Networking meetings follow an hour of tennis activity. On a monthly basis, they have volunteer guest speakers, which include doctors, oncologist, surgeons, radiologists and massage therapists.
