This program will be presented by Martin Kasdan, funeral director at Gutterman and Musicant in Hackensack.
Are there practices or traditions at a Jewish funeral that you might have seen or heard but couldn’t make sense of? Where does the tradition of tearing clothes or wearing a black ribbon come from? How long should a family sit shiva, and why? Is there a reason for putting a stone on the monument at a grave? All these questions and more will be delved into during an enlightening discussion about the myths, mysteries and fears about death and mourning.
Light refreshments will be served at the program, which is free and open to the community. This event is being sponsored by The Adult Education Committee of Temple Beth El. Please RSVP to the Temple Beth El Office at 201 768- 5112 or office@tbenv.org.
