Closter Finalizes Memorial Day Ceremony, Parade

CLOSTER, N.J.– Closter will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and memorial service May 30 in honor of the 18 borough residents who served in World War I, World War II, and Vietnam, as well as currently serving residents.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. Leroy S. Mead Post 111, American Legion Memorial Service atVeterans Monument Park (Herbert Avenue and Closter Dock Road)
  • 9:00 a.m. Closter Fire Department Service at 100 Ruckman Road
  • 9:30 a.m. Assembly in the St. Mary’s Church parking area 
  • 10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade

The parade begins on Legion Place at High Street, and continues east onto High Street to Closter Dock Road. Then, participants will bear left and proceed north on Closter Dock Road, before heading west on Harrington Avenue.

The parade will conclude at Veteran's Memorial Park. 

The Mayor’s trophy will be awarded to the parade group that displays the most innovative use of red, white and blue. 

The event is hosted by the Leroy S. Mead American Legion Post 111; Closter Elks Lodge 2304; and the borough. 

Closter officials request residents to join in the community’s spirit and commitment by lining the streets along the parade route and displaying American flags. 

Residents who are currently serving or are retired that would like to participate are encouraged to do so. They can call the borough offices at (201) 784-0600 ext. 304.
