The new short doc, "Rudy's Ribbon-Cutting: the Big Scissors," appears on the Rudy's Facebook page, website and YouTube channel. This short video follows positive feedback for "Inside Rudy's," filmmaker Antony Osso's series of short videos celebrating his dad and uncle's beloved restaurant.
"I loved seeing the community come out and talk about what Rudy's means to them," Antony Osso explained. "Hearing our mayor, local politicians and longtime customers describe the positive impact Rudy's has had on the Northern Valley was really gratifying. I wanted to share that experience and capture this once-in-a-lifetime event."
Closter Mayor John Glidden, former mayor Sophie Heymann, Assemblyman Robert Auth, Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, Councilman Robert Di Dio and others Rudy's owners Charlie and Fred Osso to celebrate the opening of the first three stores in the new section of the plaza: Rudy's, Kidville and Massage Envy.
Rudy Coniglio opened Rudy’s Pizza in Closter in 1963. In 1977, Charlie Osso and his brother Fred took over the restaurant. One of them was always present to oversee lunch and dinner service -- seven days a week for nearly 39 years.
"Rudy's is a meaningful place, not only for my family, but for the many, many families who have made it their go-to restaurant, their home-away-from-home," Antony Osso said. "In these trying times, it's important to affirm and celebrate the things that unite us: friendship, community and great pizza."
A full-length documentary, which explores the immigrant work ethic, the bond between the restaurant and the community, and the inner workings that lead to all that delicious food, will be completed this fall and premiere on the festival circuit before launching online early next year.
After temporarily relocating to the other side of the shopping center during construction, Rudy's is back in its brand-new home, at 55 Ver Valen Street, in the newly renovated section of Closter Plaza. It's open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
