Driver Disregarded Crossing Gates Before Being Struck, Killed By NJ Transit Train: Officials
A driver was killed after being struck by an NJ Transit train Monday morning, Oct. 28 in Morris County, authorities said. Montclair-Boonton Line train 1074 struck the vehicle at the Ryerson Road crossing in Lincoln Park just before 9:30 a.m., NJ Transit spokesman Kyalo Mulumba said. A preliminary investigation found that the crossing gates were working as intended and were in the down position when the driver drove the vehicle around the gates and positioned the vehicle into the path of the train, Mulumba said. A 24-year-old dirt bicyclist was struck and killed on a Clifton street just below Route 46, authorities confirmed. A 2007 Honda bike driven by the as-yet unidentified rider collided with a Honda CRV at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and East 11th Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, they said. A father has died from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a car on Monday night, according to police and his family. Lower Paxton Township Police were called to a report of a pedestrian struck in the 5500 block of Allentown Boulevard on Dec. 20 at 6:17 p.m., according to a release by police. A 79-year-old woman from Mountainside was killed Thursday night when she was struck by a car, police said. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was crossing at Summit Road and Wyoming Drive shortly after 7 p.m. when she was hit by a Honda Civic. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim in a fatal accident that partly closed I-80 in Wayne Tuesday morning was a 42-year-old Staten Island man, State Police said.
