Werthmann, a sergeant in the Summit Police Department, recently underwent an 8-hour surgery to remove a large acoustic neuroma from his brain.  While surgeons were able to successfully remove the tumor from his brain, Werthmann has experienced complications including paralysis on the left side of his body, partial blindness and the inability to walk without assistance. He was unable to receive medical attention for several hours and -- as a result of hemorrhaging -- was left paralyzed. As Harris recovers with his mother and girlfriend in the hospital, his daughter, Madison, waits for him in New Jersey. More than $3,700 had been raised as of Monday night on a GoFundMe for Harris.
