: Tractor-Trailer Fire Jams NJ Turnpike Rush Into NYC
A tractor-trailer burst into flames on the I-95 approach from the New Jersey Turnpike to the George Washington Bridge, clogging the Tuesday morning rush. The driver got the rig onto the shoulder of the local lanes near mile marker 117, roughly two-tenths of a mile before the Ridgefield Park exit, shortly after 6:30 a.m. May 16. Flames spread along the bottom of the trailer as the driver got out safely. Black smoke could be seen for miles. Ridgefield Park firefighters doused the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported. New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause.

A 49-year-old man from New York who was stopped in the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike was seriously injured when he suddenly sped away from the trooper checking on him, hitting another vehicle Sunday morning, May 14, authorities said. The man was stopped in a Honda Accord on the shoulder near milepost 54.2 in Bordentown, when a trooper came over to check on him around 10:35 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry said. Tolls will increase on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway for a third consecutive year. The 3 percent toll hikes were originally approved in 2020. The latest hike was adopted on Tuesday, Oct. 25 as part of the 2023 budget, according to New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesman Thomas Feeney. A motorcyclist had his arm amputated following a horrific crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, responders said. The 26-year-old Bronx resident was headed south in the express lanes at milepost 121 in Englewood when he lost control of the KTM motorcycle and was ejected shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, New Jersey State Trooper II Charles Marchan said.
