'You're Good:' NJ State Troopers Often Gave Connected Motorists Free Pass, Comptroller Finds
The difference between getting a ticket and getting a warning from a New Jersey State Trooper could be based on who you know, according to a new report from the New Jersey Comptroller's Office. As part of its Police Accountability Project, the comptroller's office reviewed camera footage of 501 stops by state police that did not result in a ticket. In 27% of the stops, motorists presented a courtesy card, claimed to have a friend or relative in law enforcement, or flashed a law enforcement badge and then were let go, the report said. Pedestrian Killed On NJ Turnpike
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on the NJ Turnpike in Mercer County Saturday, April 16, authorities said. The crash occurred on the northbound side of the highway in the outer roadway at milepost 68.4 in East Windsor around 12:25 p.m., New Jersey State Trooper Alejandro Goez said. The driver of the car that struck the victim remained on scene and was not injured while the pedestrian was pronounced dead, Goez said. The right two lanes were closed for accident investigation.

NJ State Trooper Airlifted In Garden State Parkway Crash
A New Jersey State Trooper was airlifted in a crash on the Garden State Parkway Friday afternoon, authorities said. The two-car crash closed the southbound side of the highway causing heavy delays around 1:30 p.m. near Exit 145 in East Orange, New Jersey State Police said. The trooper was in and out of consciousness after the crash, but suffered non life-threatening injuries, sources with direct knowledge of the crash told Daily Voice. A New Jersey State Trooper was rushed to the hospital after accidentally shooting himself in New York's Penn Station Sunday night, CBS News reports. The trooper was apparently adjusting his belt when his weapon discharged on a platform in the Amtrak section of the station, NJ.com reports.
