Loving captured the drama Wednesday afternoon as two Clifton firefighters were plucked from the Passaic River by a New Jersey State Police chopper after they'd gone in to rescue a construction crew. The three-member crew was clearing trees and brush from the river when their boat got snagged at the top of the Dundee Dam, which has a 20-foot drop to a lower section of the river below. Firefighters On Rescue Mission Airlifted After Going Over Falls In Passaic River Two Clifton firefighters on a rescue mission in the Passaic River were themselves rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter Wednesday afternoon after their boat went over the falls at the Dundee Dam. Both were taken to an area hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening following the treacherous late-afternoon operation on June 28. Jogger Says Assailant Grabbed Her In Choke Hold Outside Clifton Park Clifton police were searching for witnesses after a Passaic woman told them she'd been accosted by two men, one of whom put her in a choke hold, while jogging around Nash Park. The 33-year-old woman told police one of the assailants grabbed her from behind as she jogged near the intersection of Randolph and Hamilton avenues shortly before 5:20 a.m. Sept. 7. "After a brief struggle, she reported being able to break free and flee," Lt. Robert Bracken said.She described him as apparently Dominican, 28 to 30 years old and about 6 feet tall. Clifton PD: Bicyclist Who Grabbed Pedestrian's Butt Busted Clifton police nabbed a bicyclist who they said grabbed a Passaic woman’s butt as she walked down a local street. Fredrick Stemcovski, 32, of Clifton rode slowly past the victim, then circled back and fondled her near the corner of Ackerman Avenue and Randolph avenues, Lt. Robert Bracken said. The woman reported it to police, then alerted them when she spotted Stemcovski in the area of Nash Park the next day, the lieutenant said. Detectives who tracked down and arrested Stemcovski charged him with criminal sexual contact and released him pending a hearing.
