US Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman Off Jersey Shore A 46-year-old fisherman suffering a medical emergency was rescued off the Jersey Shore by members of the US Coast Guard from Barnegat and Atlantic City, authorities said. The rescue involved the fishing vessel "Captain John" about 45 miles east of Point Pleasant. A crew member aboard Captain John reportedly used a marine radio to notify Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders of the emergency at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. Watch: Coast Guard, Good Samaritan Rescue 6 Jersey Shore Boaters Six boaters were rescued by members of the US Coast Guard and a good Samaritan approximately 34 miles east of Atlantic City Thursday. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received an alert that a 28-foot pleasure craft with six people aboard was taking on water due to the inclement weather and the heavy seas in the area. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City launched to assist the boaters. Coast Guard Helicopter Crew Rescues Fishermen From Burning Boat Off Jersey Shore The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two fishermen after their boat caught fire approximately 34 miles off the Jersey Shore Thursday (click here for video). Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a mayday call from one of the fishermen on the 53-foot Sport Fisher boat "Reel E Bugging," saying their engines were engulfed in flames and they needed immediate assistance. The fishermen were putting on life jackets and deploying their life raft just east of the Barnegat Inlet.
