Mysterious Tar Balls Found On NJ Beaches Prompts Coast Guard Investigation
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the arrival of mysterious tar balls on beaches from Sea Bright south to Asbury Park. Areas affected include Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook and the shoreline at Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, Deal, Allenhurst and Asbury Park. Members of the US Coast Guard rescued three people from a capsized boat this weekend. The operator aboard an 18-foot disabled vessel used a VHF-FM radio to contact Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7, requesting assistance getting to shore in Great Bay, Little Egg Harbor (scroll for video). Video Shows Coast Guard Rescuing Victims From Sinking Boat In NJ
Members of the US Coast Guard rescued three boaters after their vessel began taking on water three miles east of Long Branch on Sunday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received the initial notification from the Monmouth County 911 dispatcher at 9:15 a.m., saying people on a sinking vessel needed help, the agency said in a statement. Six boaters were rescued by members of the US Coast Guard and a good Samaritan approximately 34 miles east of Atlantic City Thursday. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received an alert that a 28-foot pleasure craft with six people aboard was taking on water due to the inclement weather and the heavy seas in the area. Coast Guard Helicopter Crew Rescues Fishermen From Burning Boat Off Jersey Shore
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two fishermen after their boat caught fire approximately 34 miles off the Jersey Shore Thursday (click here for video). Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a mayday call from one of the fishermen on the 53-foot Sport Fisher boat "Reel E Bugging," saying their engines were engulfed in flames and they needed immediate assistance.
