Terrified Cliffside Park Mom With Daughter Scares Off Carjacker

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- A terrified Cliffside Park mom with her 5-yer-old daughter scared off a would-be carjacker who got into the back seat Thursday morning and threatened to have a gun, authorities told Daily Voice.

Borough schools were locked down after the 9:30 a.m. incident -- and remained closed until 11 a.m. while police combed the area, Police Chief Richard Gaito said.

Mother and daughter had left their home near #3 School and gotten into their car when the would-be carjacker -- wearing a blue hoodie and a mask -- accosted them, Gaito said.

"The mom started screaming and got out screaming, and he fled the area," the chief said.
