Suspicious Package Clears Edgewater Multiplex

EDGEWATER, N.J. -- A suspicious package found Saturday night at the Multiplex Cinemas on River Road in Edgewater caused some confusion -- and more than a bit of panic, according to some moviegoers.

The complex was cleared and swept.

Anthony Cureton of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office said the threat proved unfounded.

Some moviegoers said a bit of panic was caused by some type of noise -- possibly caused by someone falling during the evacuation between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

The sheriff's Bomb Squad responded along with borough and Fairview police. A sheriff's K-9 search the building with negative results.

"In the ['H]unger [G]ames['] movie, there was a thud from the top of the theater. Everyone turned around to see someone climbing over the top row of seats," @CaseyBella__ said in a Twitter message. "Some other commotion caused mass panic in the theater and everyone evacuated, screaming and running."
