“Allegations [came] to our attention this week concerning Mr. Lyons,” said Ben Feldman, a spokesman for Sheriff Leo McGuire. “It has been alleged that Mr. Lyons was in charge of money privately pooled from his co-workers for unofficial office functions (holiday parties, etc.) and misappropriated $4600 of that money.
“Once we became aware of the allegations, the matter was referred over to the Prosecutor’s Office,” Feldman said. “The Prosecutor’s Office in turn referred the matter back to us to make a determination on how to proceed.
“We have opened a criminal investigation into the matter in an effort to substantiate the allegation. That investigation is ongoing at this time.”
