CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- A Cliffside Park man free on bail after authorities said he rammed two Ridgefield Park police car with his Mercedes during a brief chase two months ago was arrested again Thursday night -- this time for having drugs in an unregistered and uninsured car while driving without a license, Port Authority police said.

Giovanni Petrov, 36, was behind the wheel of a tan Cadillac that was stopped near the Holland Tunnel, the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Officer Josh Oliveri smelled marijuana and spotted a bag of pot that he said Petrov told him was "for personal use."

Petrov also had two joints and an orange plastic pill bottle filled with 90 Clonazepam pills that Oliveri said he claimed were for anxiety.

A computer check turned up the motor vehicle violations, as well as a warrant, Pentangelo said.

Petrov, who was being held on $75,000 bail in the Hudson County Correctional Facility, is awaiting trial on charges stemming from an April chase that authorities said included him ramming two Ridgefield Park police cars.

They said they found him carrying five ounces of marijuana and $2,200 in cash.

Petrov, who was charged with aggravated assault, eluding, resisting arrest, obstruction and a variety of drug offenses, later posted $50,000 bail and was released.
