Anthony Cinque was caught driving the truck on video surevillance from a Feb. 26 burglary in Fairview and a Thursday break-in on Broad Avenue in North Bergen near the border of both towns, Police Chief Martin Kahn said.
The white utility pickup was stolen on Feb. 19 but not reported until Feb. 28, Kahn noted.
Detective Sgt. Joselito Rivas and North Bergen Detective Robert Maldonado teamed up to crack the case, with help from their Ridgefield colleagues, the chief said.
Cinque, as it turned out, was arrested by Paterson police on Friday and taken to the Passaic County Jail, where Kahn said he confessed to Rivas and Fairview Detective Sgt. Michael Martic that he stole the pickup and committed the burglaries.
Kahn said the investigation and arrest were another example of how well the neighboring departments from different couinties work together.
Chief Kahn wants to recognizing the close relationship that Fairview Police and North Bergen Police have in cooperating on this case and many cases in the past that have resulted in arrests.
North Bergen Police Chief Robert J. Dowd added that "the cooperation between our jurisdiction and the Fairview Police Dept is a strong one.
"Whenever our detectives work together on a case we know that it's truly a joint operation," Dowd said.
Fairview police charged Cinque with three counts of burglary and two of theft. Charges were pending in North Bergen -- as what will be probation violation out of Morris Coiunty as a result of the arrest.
Cinque in December was sentenced to five years probation in a court after he admitted four months earlier that he took tools and equipment from a transmission show in Andover.
He earlier received drug court probation on an unrelated charge in Bergen County.
