Prosecutor: Cabbie Stopped In Cliffside Park Had 2½ Pounds Of Cocaine

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- Detectives seized 2½ pounds of cocaine from a North Bergen cab driver stopped by in Cliffside Park, authorities said.

Elvis A. Nunez-Jerez, 30, was being held on $150,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on charges of having the drug with the intent to sell it.

Narcotic Task Force members and Cliffside Park police stopped Nunez-Jerez's car on Monday and found a kilogram of cocaine, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Friday afternoon.

Later that day, they found nearly 1½ ounces and $10,700 in cash at his Cottage Avenue home, the prosecutor said.

The total street value of the cocaine is about $70,000, he said.

A June 6 arraignment was set.
