Police hunt apartment sub-lease scammers

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Cliffside Park police are looking for two men who they said took $2,800 in deposits from several home hunters and then took off.  “They advertised to sub-lease the apartment on Craigslist,” Detective Capt. Michael Russo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “They took $700 to $750 from each and even gave them a key.”

“Then when April 1 came,” Russo said, “they were gone.”

The apartment in the boarding house at 152 Oakwood Avenue is empty and police are looking for the suspects.

“There’s more to this story than just people getting scammed,” Russo warned. “There’s also the potential danger element when you get involved in things like this.

“You have to know who you’re dealing with.”

Police ask that anyone who may have been scammed by the two, or have information about them, to call: (201) 945-3600.
