Port Authority Officer Matt Vogelman and Pat Carroll were at the 14th Street PATH station in Manhattan at 4:30 this morning when, they said, they saw 36-year-old Rubin Sanabria hop the turnstile.

As they questioned him, the officers noted a bulge in his waistband.

Sanabria “pushed off and tried to run,” the authority’s Al Della Fave told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “But he picked the wrong two officers. They didn’t have to run far to grab him.”

The officers found Sanabria carrying a loaded .40-cal Smith & Wesson, along with a dozen hollow point bullets, Della Fave said.

Sanabria, of Ninth Avenue, was taken into custody on charges of illegally possessing a weapon and illegal bullets, resisting arrest and theft of services.

If convicted, he’s looking at a potentially long prison sentence, given a criminal record that dates back to 1989 for crimes ranging from robbery to assault to drug offenses.
