Paramus police make another arrest in Route 4 fitness club car burglaries

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Paramus police have made another arrest in the string of car burglaries and thefts that have hit area health clubs and fitness centers.

With help from Edgewater police, Paramus Detective Doug Ohlendorf charged 23-year-old Michael Alvarez of North Bergen in connection with an April 24 car break-in, as well as one on Feb. 11, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said late this aftenoon.

In the recent break-in, a laptop, wallet and credit cards were taken from an unlocked four-door 2009 Chevy parked outside of 24 Hour Fitness on Route 4, the chief said.

Three months ago, a wallet and credit cards were stolen from a 2013 BMW parked in the same lot, Ehrenberg said.

Alvarez posted $5,000 bail and was released after borough police arrested him in a Tonnelle Avenue parking lot in North Bergen.

Three weeks ago, Paramus police arrested a 20-year-old Belleville man who they said broke into at least three lockers at the same fitness club, took the victims’ car keys and ransacked their vehicles. READ MORE ….
