“This is tremendous progress,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman James Simpson. “We are not out of the woods by any stretch, but we will continue working around the clock to further restore service where we can safely do so.”
Rail and light rail service will take much longer to restore, however, given the damage. There is no timetable yet.
Limited ferry service resumed on Wednesday. NY Waterway said it would expand between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday to the West Side Highway terminal from Edgewater, Port Imperial in Weehawken and Hoboken.
PATH train service is at least a week away, due to flood damage in the tunnels.
Full NJT bus service resumes tomorrow on 68 routes in North Jersey, with partial service on 58. South Jersey will have far fewer route resuming.
