asked a man carrying a pizza box for the handout before dawn at Anderson Avenue and Henry Street, then knocked him down, beat him and took a slice after the victim refused, Detective Capt. Martin Kahn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

An alert Officer Charles-John Turro spotted the trouble, rushed up and grabbed Gonsales, Kahn said.

Fairview’s Emergency Response Unit treated the victim for a head wound. He was OK after that, Kahn said.

The unemployed Gonsalez, 27, of John Street, was charged with strong-armed robbery and taken to the Bergen County Jail on $2,500 bail.

“Second-degree crime for a slice?” asked Kahn.
