The Bongos will be performing together again within a month, including a show at Maxwell’s, the legendary Hoboken club that launched them as an indie favorite. “I’m planning to tour solo next year, and a few Bongos dates are in the works for this fall, along with a long-lost live Bongos album recorded in 1985,”  Richard Barone told CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM.

Meanwhile, he said, he’s excited about a special CD release event at Joe’s Pub next month for a long-lost Tiny Tim album that he produced when Richard was 16 and still living in his native Tampa.

“I’ve Never Seen A Straight Banana – Rare Moments: Volume 1″ includes selections ranging from the first Edison cylinder, to obscurities from the 1920s and ’30s, to a special nod to Bob Dylan. The title song features a full-band overdub by Richard and Terre Roche of the Roches.

The special tribute is booked for 9 p.m. Oct. 30 — the anniversary of the long-haired Herbert Khaury’s historic performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall — — at Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette Street @ Astor Place.

Guest artists/speakers include Anthony DeCurtis, Terre Roche — and Joe Franklin!

In the spirit of Halloween weekend, audience members are encouraged to attend dressed as the man himself. Best costume/Tiny Tim lookalike will be get a free copy of the album and other prizes.

“As many of you know, when I was a teenager in Florida, I produced an album for the great Tiny Tim,” Richard recently wrote to fans. “This summer, I re-entered the studio to complete the album, and it will be released – for the first time – next month by Collector’s Choice Music.

“Keeping close to the ideas Tiny and I discussed during the original recording sessions in Tampa, and with the help of an amazing technical team and musicians here in NYC, I believe he would have been as pleased with the results as I am.”
