High school instructor charged with inappropriate sexual behavior with students

A trusted Bogota High School instructor had sexually explicit Internet chats with underaged boys and a tryst with one of them, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said late Wednesday in announcing charges against him.

Michael Adam Boris, 30, of Lodi, is free on $150,000 bail, pending a Dec. 8 initial appearance in Bogota Municipal Court on charges of aggravated criminal sexual contact and child endangerment.

Two of the boys who came forward are current students and one a former student, Molinelli said. Officials at the high school tipped off his investigators a week ago, the prosecutor said. Boris was immediately suspended, he said.

Boris, who is single and also has a job at the IKEA store in Paramus, was a graduate of Bogota High School in 1999. He has worked at the school nearly seven years as an assistant coach for the cross-country and spring track and field teams, as well as an assistant band, drama and stage crew director, Molinelli said.

The contact – both online and in person – began four years ago and “continued through the present school year,” he said.

The prosecutor asked that anyone who may have had a similar relationship with Boris call Bogota police at (201) 487-2400 or his office’s Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit at (201) 226-5620.
