Video surveillance footage from area businesses shows Ernest Dominguez’s 1996 white Honda Civic hatchback on Anderson Avenue at the time the shots were called in, Fairview Police Capt. Martin Kahn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Police believe a starter pistol was fired, the captain said.

Cliffside Park police, responding to a bulletin about the low-riding vehicle, found Dominguez’s car parked outside his house Thursday night and alerted their Fairview colleagues.

They impounded the car, which has distinctive racing gauges on its windshield, and brought Dominguez in for questioning. They later released with the summons, Kahn said.

Dominguez, 25, of Park Avenue, is due in Fairview Municipal Court on Wednesday to answer a disorderly persons summons in connection with the incident.

One of the videos shows a man walking up the street, the Honda passing it, and the driver then making a U-turn before dawn Thursday. Moments later, people in the area began dialing 911, reporting the sound of gunfire.

Investigators with the Bergen County Police K-9 Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification scoured the scene for evidence.

Fairview police are hoping to identify the man on the street. They asked that anyone with information about the incident contact them: (201) 943-2100.
