Elvirio Aguilar-Canil (MUGSHOT: Bergen County Prosecutor)
Elvirio Aguilar-Canil, who is unemployed and has been living on Wheeler Street in Cliffside Park, was arrested by members of Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinell’s Special Victims Unit and Fairview police.
The 5-foot-3-inch Aguilar-Canil is charged with aggravated sexual assault on a minor, as well as two counts of making terroristic threats and burglary.
Aguilar-Canil, who is being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, must remain in custody:
The U.S. government has also issued a detainer on him for possible deportation pending the outcome of the Fairview case.
Moilnelli said Fairview police responded to a 911 call from the girl at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. They found Aguilar-Canil there and arrested him the prosecutor said.
Neither the teen nor the child sustained injuries requiring medical attention, the prosecutor said.
“During the course of interviewing the female victim, it was learned that [Aguilar-Canil] had engaged in sexual activities with her in the past,” at which point officers contacted the SVU, Molinelli said.
He is scheduled for an initial Municipal Court appearance at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
