Focus on drug-related crimes leads to Ridgefield arrests

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A focus on drug-related crimes has led to 28 arrests by Ridgefield police the last 18 months.

A sampling of some recent busts, from Capt. Rich Besser:

June 28: Patrolman Daniel Fugnitti was escorting an unruly passenger from a NJ Transit bus on Broad Avenue when he found him carrying a small amount of pot and drug parahernalia. Joseph Zovko, 32 (photos above, bottom right), Fairview was charged with possessing both and released pending a court hearing.

June 19: Sgt. Robert Meurer and Patrolman Edward Schaefer, answering a suspicious car call, found 27-year-old John Diciancia (middle) behind the wheel of a parked car without a driver’s license. A consented search turned up a hypodermic needle, leading to a charge of drug paraphernalia possession.

June 12: Patrolman Brandon Hogan stopped a car on Edgewater Avenue driven by a man found to have a suspended driver’s license. A consented search turned up 16 hypodermic needles and 39 small white bags ordinarily used to package heroin. Laszlo Balazs, 27 (far left), and his passenger, 30-year-old Danielle Carrier (top), both of Ridgefield, were charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and released pending a July court appearance.
