Michael A. "Money Mike" Agosto, 28, went to Bar One on Fairview Avenue looking for the victim just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Police Chief Martin Kahn told Daily Voice.
A confrontation led to an argument that quickly became a scuffle, he said
Suddenly, the victim felt a pain in his back.
He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with a non-critical stab wound, Kahn said.
Over the next several hours, Detective Sgt. Michael Martic and Detective Sgt. Joselito Rivas conducted interview, assembled details and eventually tracked down Agosto in West New York, with help from police there, the chief said.
Although from Plainfield, Agosto has spent most of his time in West New York, Kahn said.
He's been arrested there several times -- and been convicted of robbery, burglary, assaulting police and making terroristic threats -- over the past 10 years, records show.
Fairview police charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. A judge ordered him held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
