Phyllis Cohen was alert and apparently all right, witnesses told CLIFFVIEW PILOT as she was being taken to Holy Name Hospital.
Cohen had just dropped off her husband, Jerome, and was pulling her car into their parking space in the three-tiered garage when she hit the gas instead of the brake, Louis Taub, a member of the Greenhouse Board of Directors, told CLIFFVIEW PILOT just before 8 tonight.
“The car somehow landed flat on the ground,” Cliffside Park Police Chief Donald Keane told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “It ended up parked sideways in the driveway outside the building.
“I went there expecting the worst after hearing it on my [police] radio,” the chief said. “But her injuries and the damage was unbelievably minor – thank God.”
What’s more, the chief said, “A woman who was walking her dog there just missed getting hit.”
The Cohens have lived on the 17th floor in the Greenhouse at 770 Anderson Avenue since buying their condo in 1993, records show.
The area around the smashed fence is blocked off with police tape. Taub said it will be fixed as quickly as possible.
