Randy Brandau, 32, was arrested by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s White Collar Crimes Unit after the judge in the case contacted them, acting Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Thursday.
Brandau testified before the Superior Court judge in Hackensack in July that “he had received permission from his landlord to postpone eviction proceedings,” Grewal said.
“To support his testimony, [Brandau] presented a letter to the court stating that he had permission to remain in the apartment and the letter purportedly contained the landlord’s signature,” he said.
It was bogus, the prosecutor said.
Brandau, who is single and unemployed, was charged with forgery and tampering with public records. A arraignment was scheduled for this coming Wednesday in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack.
