The shaken driver stopped the 2008 Hyundai (photo, above) and remained at the scene in the 400 block of Gorge Road following the crash, just before 4 p.m., witnesses said.

Witnesses told police the victim was crossing the street in the middle of the block, from west to east, when he was struck by the northbound car, Cliffside Park spokesman William Maer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

No summonses were issued, he said.

“It doesn’t appear to be anything other than a horrible accident,” Maer said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit responded, along with the county Sheriff’s Office and Cliffside Park police.
