Officers found a glass door broken and a cash register drawer removed from the Old River Road business just after 1:30 a.m., Police Chief William Skidmore said Tuesday afternoon.
They immediately broadcast a description provided by a witness – after which Cliffside Park police stopped Joseph Hernandez, 46, of Union City on nearby Gorge Road, Skidmore said.
Hernendez -- who had fresh cuts on his hands, broken glass on his clothing and proceeds in his pockets -- was arrested, the chief said.
A judge ordered him held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, pending a court hearing.
Skidmore thanked Cliffside Park police and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, whose Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
