“They checked him out and he was fine,” Police Chief John Burke told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.
Officer Michael LaFerrera was doing radar on Palisades Avenue when the driver sped by headed north around 12:50 a.m., Burke said.
The officer activated his lights and sirens and the other driver took off, he said.
At Main Street, the driver cut his lights and turned east into Teaneck, the chief said.
He then ran a red light at Queen Anne and DeGraw avenues, nearly hitting several cars, before continuing east to the Route 95/80 split, he said.
LaFerrera “went to take the entrance to the highway and, due to the wet conditions, slid off the road into a wooded area,” Burke said.
The pursued vehicle — which other responders said broke speeds of 70 miles an hour — vanished onto the highway, he said.
The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps took LaFerrera to Holy Name Medical Center. He was released after being treated, the chief said.
