Bogota Police Chief Commends Heroes

BOGOTA, N.J. -- They've saved lives, taken drugs off the street and served as role models to countless youngsters, for which Bogota Police Chief Daniel Maye presented awards and commendations to several of the borough's finest.

Among those honored at Thursday's council meeting:

Sgt. Craig Lynch, who received both a Life Saving Award for resuscitating a resident and a Certificate of Commendation for what the chief said was "tireless work" with youngsters in the Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy;

Sgt. Geoffrey Cole, who received a Life Saving Award for saving a resident's life by conducting CPR;

Detective Hector Liriano, who received a Life Saving Award for saving a resident's life;

Officer Devin Rivera, who received a Certificate of Commendation for arresting two people who Maye said were selling a large amount of drugs;

Officer Walter Kumka, who received a Certificate of Commendation for arresting an accused dealer who the chief said were selling a lot of drugs;

Officer Kevin Geraghty, who received a Certificate of Commendation for the arrest of two people who Maye said were distributing a large amount of drugs.
