Bergen County Police Officer Jeffrey DePalma spotted the stolen car reported stolen by Fairview police earlier and pulled it over on Industrial Avenue, west of Teterboro Airport, Lt. Robert Espinosa told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

As the officer was radioing in the vehicle’s information, the it sped off, Espinosa said.

The driver ran the red light, slamming the car into an SUV headed west on Route 46, spun around and hit an NJ Transit bus, he said.

Giovanni Zarro, 31, was being held on $150,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail following his arrest.

He was charged with eluding, assault by auto and possession of a hypodermic syringe that Espinosa said police found in an inside jacket pocket.

He also received several summonses — for speeding, reckless driveing being an unlicensed driver and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Fairview police charged him with automobile theft.
