I picked up my daughter, Taty, from her school and headed there.
There was no serious traffic or much street closures. I was able to pick up Amir. That’s when I saw people running into the school, upset.
I parked in the Trader Joe’s lot and went to the community building. Around 6:30-7 p.m. they allowed me to go into my apartment, across from the main building, to get my cat, Kitty Witty, and grab a few clothes for the kids.
All of a sudden I heard a loud noise coming from the building across from my living room. Windows were blowing out. Then we heard people yelling in the hallways to get out.
So we hurried and made it to safety.

To see such beautiful apartments just engulfed in flames was terrifying. I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to make sure my apartment was unscathed. But things got bad.
I’m hoping my apartment wasn’t a total loss.
I feel terrible for the families that are now displaced. You see this happen but you never expect something like this to happen. Hopefully we can all start to pick up the pieces.
I’m thankful for all the service men and women, the firemen, police and rescue workers who came to battle this blaze, which has now destroyed the homes of many, many families — but hasn’t destroyed us.
