CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. – Carl Joseph Matthes, of Cliffside Park, died Tuesday, Feb. 2. He was 79.
He was born March 13, 1936, in New York City, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was the owner and operator of Cal's Appliances in Cliffside Park. He had a love for the outdoors, wildlife woodworking, landscaping, gardening, hunting and fishing.
He was the husband to Cecilia (Sheridan) Matthes; father to Kevin Matthes, Curt Matthes and his wife, Kaye, Cecilia "Bunnie" Matthes and the late Chris Matthes; grandfather to Tanya, Stephanie, Kyle, Craig, Sheila and Christina; great-grandfather to Peter and Ricky; and brother to the late Ellenann Ahern.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the A.K. Macagna Funeral Home, 495 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will be private.
