CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. – Construction at the Cliffside Park Towne Centre on Anderson Avenue was at long last running smoothly -- and should be done by the end of the year, developer Jim Demetrakis told Daily Voice.

“We have another three floors and then we’ll be topped off,” said Demetrakis, co-partner with Fred Daibes in the Towne Centre Urban Renewal Company.

“The exterior panels are coming in starting next Wednesday, and the windows will be coming in six weeks later,” he said this week.

What's more, the garages and sprinklers are finished and the electrical and plumbing trade teams are at work.

“The interior framing is being done, too,” Demetrakis said. “Everything is running very smoothly.

Now we’re picking up time.”

Multi-family developments comprise 60 percent of the construction activity throughout New Jersey, according to the Bergen County Economic Development Corporation.

Cliffside Park's 3.3-acre, 15-story project - which will feature 277 luxury apartment units, 50,000 square feet of retail and office space and 190-space municipal parking lot -- has been plagued by delays since the borough seized a dozen properties at the site in 2006 and leveled them in 2009.

Excavation began in July 2012 after Towne Centre Urban Renewal Company obtained private financing through TD Bank.

All involved said they expected the $140 million center originally would be completed in 2014, but two bad winters and rock excavation issues connected to underground parking caused delays.

To date, however, Demetrakis says, projected costs are on target.
