But doing so took a leap of faith for Komal Shah Kapoor and Laurie Molina.
“We knew it was doing great the way it was, but it wasn’t interactive,” said Kapoor, who started the group in 2014 before moving to Los Angeles.
“It’s the people who make a great neighborhood, and for both of us, the goal was to connect those people.”
The group serves all River Road communities — from Fort Lee on down to West New York.
Molina and Kapoor, along with some others who help behind the scenes, felt the residents themselves should have more of a say in what's posted.
“It’s not about people sending us questions and us putting them out, it’s getting people involved,” Molina said.
“The board isn’t going to work if what’s being posted isn’t what residents want to see.”
At first, people were having trouble finding the new page. People were skeptical.
People were afraid to post.
But things on the neighborhood exchange have started to pick up — and Kapoor and Molina are feeling hopeful.
“We’re making the page exactly what residents are looking for,” Kapoor said.
“People are asking how they can volunteer and get more involved, and turning to the board is a great way of doing that.”
Kapoor is hoping to add a “reviews” section to help build a more sustainable community.
“But, she said, “I think we’re in a good place, and we just want it to grow and to share the love.”
