Officers responded to a home in Memphis, Tennessee on Whitney Avenue at 3:50 a.m. Monday, March 10, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, according to the police report first detailed by WMC-TV Action News 5.
He told police he had been lying in bed with a female friend when his 1-year-old pit bull jumped onto the bed and got its paw stuck in the trigger guard, causing the weapon to fire.
The victim’s friend left the scene before officers arrived, taking the firearm with her, police said.
Investigators found shell casings on the front room floor but did not specify what type of gun was involved.
The victim was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition and treated for a graze wound.
The Memphis Police Department classified the case as an accidental injury.
