The demolition of the boiler units at the former B.L. England Generating Station in the Beesley’s Point section of Upper Township was set for 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, the town's Office of Emergency Management said.

The coal-burning facility, built in 1961, produced 450 megawatts of power at full capacity and 300 megawatts on a normal basis.

The facility also burned #6 oil in unit 3.

Only part of the power plant was being imploded on Friday.

Officials say the smokestack will be brought down at a later date.

The massive cooling tower was brought down on Sept. 29, 2022.
